Helvetica in eight cuts, and which cut belongs to which job.

Using the cuts

Choose the cut from the job, not from the look. The regular and bold weights carry almost all communication; the condensed cuts exist for tight measures such as specification tables and packaging panels.

Rules

  • Two weights per layout. Regular for text, Bold for emphasis and headings.
  • Use a condensed cut only where the measure is genuinely tight. Never condense a normal cut to fake one.
  • Never apply a false bold, false italic or outline to any cut.
  • Century Gothic appears in one place only — the tagline inside the logo artwork. It is not a text face.

Interfaces are set in Roboto, not Helvetica — a screen face chosen for legibility at small sizes. See User Interface → Typography. Helvetica governs print and packaging; Roboto governs the screen.
