Misuse
Thirteen things that must never be done to the logo, and the three checks that catch them.
Thirteen ways to get it wrong
Inconsistent use of the logo damages recognition. Every rule below exists because breaking it makes the mark harder to recognise, harder to read, or both.
01Do not stretch the logo.
02Do not place the logo in a shape or a container.
03Leave space around the logo. No text or shapes in the background.
04Do not use colours other than those allowed.
05Add no line, shape or letter inside the clear space.
06Add no shadow, dimension or glow.
07Resizing is allowed only while the logo stays legible.
08Do not rotate the logo.
09Do not place the logo on a busy background.
10Do not use a background that has low contrast with the logo.
11Do not outline the logo.
12Do not change the set proportions of tagline and logotype.
13Do not change the logo’s font.
If in doubt
Three checks catch almost every misuse before it reaches print.
Checks
- Measure it. Is the lockup the same shape as the supplied artwork? Any difference in width against height is a stretch.
- Clear it. Is there one R-width of empty space on every side? See clear space.
- Read it. At the size it will actually be printed, is the tagline still legible? If not, go up a size or drop the tagline where that is allowed.
Always place the supplied artwork. Never redraw the mark, and never rebuild it from a font.
